That's a mom you "don't" want to mess with.

:iconearthbaragon: says: I have to admit Rebis, you seem to come up with a completely different narrative for every character illustration that you submit for these jams. It is always such a treat to see what idea you come up with every time. And this one is no exception.  While you are not the only one that did the mom/baby mash-up, you are the only one to focus mostly on the child. Your baby Gorgo just has an innocent look with those giant anime eyes. The mom is utterly frightful in the black silhouette backdrop. Like always, the shading and line-work are spot on. And I really enjoy the textures that the  pieces in your illustrations contain, (such as the buildings and clouds). Amazing work as always my friend.

:iconenshohma: says: Sometimes you just nail these tributes perfectly! Other than some muted red coloring, it perfectly captures the final moments of the movie, if not slightly ominously. The black silhouette is quite effective, and one of those visual effects that have a delayed reaction on the viewer. And I loved how you added more childish, cute eyes to the younger Gorgo of this mother and son duo. My comment for your entry might be short, but honestly, I think this is my favorite of this art jam's submissions!

That's some quality Ominous Lighting (or lack thereof) for ickle Gorgy's madre, and those big dewy eyes & lighter skin tones make differentiation 'tween the two markedly easier than was the case onscreen...heck, I'm not sure whether more than one suit was even used in that film. Can't help thinking some classic blood-red would've brought Ogra's eyes out even further, but perhaps we can chalk that up to the tricks played by eyeshine.

Haha, that's what I always wondered also...was there more then one suit? It always drove me nuts they both looked so a like. Great idea about the red eyes also. I had originally thought of making mama's eyes shine like a crocodile but thought the more "comic book feel" fit a little better.

Oh, the comic feel works here: a bit more Art Adams/Mike Mignola than some of the later Charlton issues' cartoony spin. Not that I mind a bit of camp with my kaiju one bit.
